Then the next thing that`s going to happen is that you want to have this kind of conversation with your client about what went well and what didn`t go well? What are you looking forward to? What are you unhappy with? And you`re going to include that information in what we call a record of lessons learned. And so you`ll share that with the organization, because if another legal team or your legal team is working on a similar issue in the future, they can use words with etiquette words, go get what we`ve learned from previous projects so that the same mistakes haven`t happened as before. From start to finish, agile project management can help track legal projects, review results, and then apply lessons learned to future projects. Mitchell-Mercer explains how applying these principles can help your business work more efficiently, improve outcomes, and better serve customers. As a bonus, there`s no high barrier to entry for scrummaster certification (and that could contribute to your personal market value). Jill Francisco: Because it`s really cool to identify that. I think if you have a paralegal out there and they have this bunch of problems or whatever, it`s like it really opens your eyes, “Oh, well, that`s something practical,” this method, the Scrum they were supposed to investigate, can deal with it because it felt like it was really useful for them. It was cool, if you can talk about it again. “If it would be beneficial for the client to see several early drafts or drafts of the contract and give iterative feedback, if there were a lot of interdependencies between the different parts of the contract, such as changing one thing at the end that would lead to the modification of several parts of the document, then that would be an area where an iterative agile process could help.” She.
As you can see, over the years I`ve really developed a love of learning project management because I`ve gone after all these certifications. I`m always happy to learn more about how to add value to the cases and issues I`m working on. The Mondelēz team has taken a similar democratic approach in developing the vision for its future legal function. The agile process takes into account the ongoing needs of the end user, which is especially beneficial when the company`s end goals and needs may be unclear or flexible. The development team is able to get consistent feedback and updates on the end goal and make changes as the customer`s ultimate needs become clearer. “When I pass on my knowledge to an agile working group, I have to be prepared not to spend time on things I used to do and rely on my colleagues to help me do those things. And it`s kind of a learning curve – you need to build trust in the system and make it work. Avanade`s legal team is also creating thought leadership working groups, for example to prepare for GDPR. Agile Legal Services focuses on providing businesses with the legal support they need for the full range of legal services provided by businesses so that legal projects do not hinder business growth, but contribute to business success.
Every business needs to protect what it builds. Agile Legal provides legal services that ensure the success of a business. Even at the functional level, a step-by-step approach can be a good rule of thumb. Oskandy`s legal team, for example, first deployed Agile in the Nordic region and then expanded around the world after a successful transition. If trying to manage your workload or legal department through a hodgepodge of to-do lists and institutional memory leaves you no way to coordinate work within a dispersed or virtual legal team, it may be time to consider making a change. Agile in Law is a new approach to legal process management used by law firms and in-house legal departments to improve their services and meet client needs. We will present Agile in Law, some of its advantages and some of the Agile techniques that can be used by legal departments: Mondelēz`s legal competence centers are grouped around areas – marketing, social media, data protection and corporate governance – and therefore may not be cross-functional in the strict sense. However, Pleuhs found that the challenge of working flexibly across a range of geographic jurisdictions exposes team members to interdisciplinary problem solving. He found that it is best suited for highly innovative, customer-centric organizations where speed to market is paramount. Organizations that want to get out of the creeping bureaucracy; or those that target “business change” features – such as technology, product development or marketing – rather than “business management” features like legality. But if companies partially adopt Agile without at least promoting awareness of these latter functions, bottlenecks can arise.
For this reason, Poindexter often works with legal teams during an agile deployment to gain an understanding of Agile and identify opportunities for harmonization between different delivery methods. “When we started using the different agile methods, a lot of people were skeptical. But [Braun`s general counsel] Dr. Daum said, “If it doesn`t work, then that`s fine too. But let`s try that. It was a very good start, because all the time we felt like we could say, `It`s not good for us, it doesn`t help, it takes time,`” Weis recalls. “In the past, each person was responsible for their areas of responsibility, and although there was an interaction between different subjects, each worked more individually. Now we are working more and more as a team and solving problems together,” says Vanessa Weis, Junior Legal Counsel. Now, I think it`s easier to understand a class if you`ve already done a project or if you`ve googled a bit and read about the framework and know the basics, I think that makes the class a little easier.
But it`s not that hard to get in. I would say that many paralegal certifications are probably not that difficult to obtain. I also think that the benefits, there are associated costs, but you can find many different providers. The Scrum Alliance therefore does not conduct its own training for its certification. Instead, they allow people to take the training. And so there are a lot of different coaches out there. I received my training through Think Louder, for example. Agile methods can reduce delays and improve coordination in legal work, but they are not suitable for all projects. Jill Francisco: That`s right. And as you said, jumping over places everywhere, I think that`s a problem.
As you said, if it`s on fire, I have to rush here and maybe you had a plan, but you jump everywhere. So what do you think, because few of my last shows that we`ve talked about today, I feel like there are a lot of opportunities for paralegals because that`s how the workforce works. As I said, I feel like I could have 10 paralegal jobs if I had the time to do it, I`m right now. Do you think this is a good opportunity for paralegals, as something they should get? Does it increase their market value? What would you say about such things with paralegals, because I think you always have to have a different motivation than the one that would help me in my organization? Do you think this is really an opportunity that paralegals can take advantage of? Over the past five years, Agile has left the movement, with partial or even widespread adoption in fields and functions as diverse as marketing, engineering, and manufacturing. The company is full of buzzwords, and one of the liveliest in recent years is “agile.” Alicia Mitchell-Mercer: Thank you Jill. So I think I`m just going to stick to the information relevant to legal project management and what I`m doing with it right now. So I`ve been a paralegal for about 20 years. I have been working as a legal project manager since 2012. I have a Bachelor of Science in Paralegal Studies, a Master of Project Management and a PhD in Public Administration. I work for Lex Project Consulting Group as Director of Project Management and we provide consulting services in project management and legal project management.
